Metal finishing: What to expect

If you are not familiar with laser cut profiles below are some examples. We have done our best for these pictures to accurately represent the different finishes, but please take them only as a guide. If you have any questions, ask one of our sales team who will be happy to help.

In the examples below, each tile is approximately 100 mm width, 2mm thick except for the hot rolled mild steel which is 4mm thick.

Mild Steel

Mild Steel - No finish - front
Mild Steel CR4 (Cold Rolled/Reduced)
No finish – Front
  • Available up to 3 mm thick
  • Little spatter around cut outs
  • Can have light surface rust
Mild Steel CR4 (Cold Rolled/Reduced)
No finish – Back
  • Available up to 3 mm thick
  • Little spatter around cut outs
Mild Steel No finish - bafrontck
Mild Steel HR (Hot Rolled)
No finish – Front
  • Available from 4 mm +
  • Frosting around cut outs
Mild Steel No finish - back
Mild Steel HR (Hot Rolled)
No finish – Back
  • Burrs on underside cut to cutting small detail in thick material doesn’t cut as well

Aluminium

Aluminium
No finish – Front
  • Frosting/spatter around cut outs
Aluminium

Brushed/Linished – Front
  • Uniform grain
  • Removes frosting /spatter
  • Can be done both sides

Stainless Steel

2B Stainless Steel 
(2B finish ) one side – Front
 
  • Frosting/spatter around cut outs
  • 304 and 316 grade
  • Available up to 6mm 
DP1 Stainless Steel 
(Brushed Sheet) one side – Front
  • Comes with film on
  • Film may blow off around cut outs
  • Spatter/frosting around cut outs
  • Film residue can be easily removed
  • 304 and 316 grade
  • Available up to 6mm
MP1 Stainless Steel
(Mirror Polished) one side – Front
  • Comes with film on
  • Film may blow off around cut outs
  • We are unable to re-polish after cutting
  • Film residue can be easily removed
  • 304 and 316 grade
  • Available up to 6mm
Stainless Steel – All 
2B/MP1/DP1 – Rear
  • Spatter from the bed slats
2B Stainless Steel
Rumbled ‘2B’ Stainless – Front
  • Slightly polishes and softens edges
  • Doesn’t completely remove spatter
2B Stainless Steel
Brushed/Linished – Front 
  • Uniform grain
  • Removes frosting / spatter
  • Can be done both sides  

Copper

Copper
No finish – Front
  • Discolouration from cut
Copper
No finish – Back
  • Spatter / burrs on underside from bed slats
Copper
 Brushed/Linished – Front
  • Uniform grain
  • Removes any spatter / burrs
  • Changes colour of material
  • Can be done both sides

Brass

Brass
 No finish – Front
  • Slight frosting around any small cut outs
Brass

  • Spatter / burrs on underside from bed slats
Brass
 Brushed/Linished – Front
  • Uniform grain
  • Removes any spatter / burrs
  • Can be done both sides

Tags and Cut Edges

  • You will get a small tag on the outside edge of all laser cut parts.
  • These can be removed if requested. You may also get them within any cutouts on a part.

Cut Edge

  • You will get striation lines on the cut edge, the thicker the material, the more visible these are.
